Not gone, just snuggling...

August will be 3 weeks old tomorrow.  I can't believe it.  I guess I should record the rest of his story before I start to forget.  All I know is that I need to be more careful about what I wish for, because I just might get it. Unfortunately not quite how I planned.
At 3:00am on May 21, August was put in the NICU for breathing issues.  Nothing serious, but apparently just enough for the nurses to be all worried, unfortunately I didn't know that it's really easy to get into the NICU but unfortunately really hard to get your baby out.  He finally came home 11 days later.  It started with the breathing, and the NICU doctors were able to get all the fluid out of his lungs.  But because of the procedure he had to be on antibiotics fora few days.  On Sunday I was discharged, but lucky for me, August was moved to his own private room in pediatrics, meaning I could stay with him!  Yay.  But on Monday we were not lucky and found out he was having a hard time keeping his food down...  Back to the NICU.  After emptying his stomach and taking Xrays, the Doctors could not find anything wrong with him.  So after being on only an IV, he was allowed to start eating again.  He threw it up.  Then came the Barium swallow test.  He passed with flying colors, and again the Xrays came back normal.  The doctors decided to start him on reflux medicine.  I guess they thought it worked because his eating problems were never mentioned again.  He was allowed to start eating again after that.  The nurses were thrilled.  (Apparently he was mighty cranky and those IV fluids were not cutting the hunger pains!)  Anyway, during all of this he got Jaundice.  After a couple more days in the NICU they finally moved him back to pediatrics. (Yay! I get to stay!)  He sat on a Bili blanket for a few days, got a suntan under the photo therapy light, and went on a 24 hour formula flush.  Finally on Tuesday May 31 he got the OK to come home.  P.S.  He still throws up...  a lot.  Makes me wonder why he was in there in the first place.
Anyway, back to my wish.  Before August was born I told Matt I wanted a week to just be with my baby.  To hold him, and snuggle him and not worry one bit about my other two boys.  Thanks to Grandma Brandley, Uncle Michael, and Matt, I was able to do just that.  Just not quite how I planned, it's kinda hard holding a baby that's attached to an IV, and numerous other monitors and cords.  But the point is, is that I got to.  for 11 whole days. For anyone out there who is concerned, I just want you to know, the hardest thing about this whole experience was looking at my baby attached to all the machines and thinking to myself... There is nothing wrong with him, why is he in here.  So instead of feeling robbed (which I still kind of do...) I'm going to be grateful that he really is just a normal healthy baby, with very over cautious doctors watching him.  It could have been much worse.
Anyway here are some of my favorite pictures from the Hospital.
Jonas said he wanted to name the baby night light boy, so I sent him this picture to show him he got his wish!

Oh Renee, I'm sorry things didn't go as you would have liked (even though they kind of did). With Weston I really wanted a "natural" birth, and I definitely got that, but in a very different way than I wanted to too :). I'm glad you're all home and happy and healthy now, he is adorable just like your other boys!

Baa! What a story! I was wondering why an 8lb baby would have to be in NICU. I am so glad that he is finally home! I think he looks like Gibs...but then again I have never seen them so maybe I am completely wrong. I think he is great...and I want to visit so let me know when you are home in Canada. We will be there for a Michel family reunion July 19 so keep me posted. xoxo to everyone!

Oh so sad! I'm glad he's home and away from all the poking. I wish I could have been his nurse!
